July13: I have received all of the permissions I need to publish! I will be finalizing the copy, submitting it to the printer, and ordering the first 100 copies. I will be setting up a PayPal link here for ordering your copy as soon as I have the books in hand.
June 4: Finishing up the rewrite of the second half of the book. On to final proof reading and then some legal issues to resolve. Still looking for publication late this month.
Also, added a video on the Emmanuel Episcopal Church fire of 1924; click here for YouTube site or look under "Firs" in the menu.
April 26: I have created a Facebook page for other to comment and share experiences, photos, and information.
May 2: Today I finished my research - was able to do the village board records for '44 and '45 and the newspaper archives for '45. Should have the first draft completed by the end of the week and start the re-write first of the week. I believe I have also found a publishing company which provides good quality at a price I can afford. Still on track for June.
May 19: The rewrite of the first 1/2 is completed, and waiting for my editor's review of the second half, which I will get tomorrow. Will have the entire rewrite done by the end of the month. Added a couple new photos and cleaned up the section of photos and illustrations. Still on track.
June 6: DONE! The second rewrite has been completed, and is being proof read for the final version. Will meet with some people regarding use of copyrighted material, and, if all goes wll, out to the publishing company by the end of the month. Once I have the copies in hand, I will be posting a link to a PayPal account for ordering.
July 25: Truly a red letter day! I have the books and am ready to start delivering. There is an order page for placing orders weather you are near or far. I will also have books available at my program at the La Grange Public Library on August 16th.
April 9: I have finished the chapter on 1940, which leaves five to go. I am on schedule for final editing by May and planning to work out the publishing details for a June release. Will still need to meet with one or two people related to copyrighted mater, but once that hurdle is cleared I will be right on track.
Steel Men and Wooden Ladders
Join me on November 15th as the La Grange Historical Society hosts a presentation and book signing at the La Grange Village Hall, 53 South La Grange Road. Sit in the building where the village board met and decided the fate and future of the department. I will be answering questions and signing books.
